The Lamborghini Reventon was one of the stars of the 2007 Frankfurt
Motor Show. In fact it pretty much stole the show.
The outrageous Reventon is a limited edition (only 20 were made)
supercar based on the Lamborghini
LP640 but with even more extreme body styling. Power for
the Reventon comes from the same 640 horsepower, 6.5 litre V12
driving the LP640, and as such the performance is identical.
The appearance of the Lamborghini Reventon is designed to echo
that of modern combat jets, with angular, radar evading lines
and jagged detailing around the rear window and engine lid.
Even the color, a totally new hue: Grey Barra, a mid opaque
grey without the usual shine highlights the aeronautic theme.
However, thanks to the metallic particles, in the sun the color
features surprising depth.
This play of opaque and luster is also featured on the wheel
rims, especially created for the Lamborghini Reventon. Brilliant
carbon fins are screwed onto the opaque black aluminum spokes,
not only creating a visual effect but a turbine effect also
ensures optimum cooling for the powerful ceramic brake discs.
The front end of the Lamborghini Reventon is characterized by
the acute angle of the central 'arrow' and by the powerful forward-facing
air intakes supplying cooling air to the carbon-ceramic brake
discs and 6-piston calipers.
Naturally, the doors on the Lamborghini Reventon open upwards
- since the Countach
this has been a symbol of the V12 Lamborghini production line.
Below the doors, the asymmetric spoilers highlight the method
with which a Lamborghini fulfills its function: the spoiler
on the driver's side is large to increase the flow of oil to
the radiator. On the right side of the vehicle, the spoiler
is flat because here it only has to ensure the smooth airflow
below the floor. The aerodynamically optimized under-floor structure
terminates at the rear with a diffuser
featuring an accentuated shape. This guarantees excellent road
grip and stability even at 211 mph (340 km/h).
The bodywork of the Reventon is made from a composite carbon
fiber material, which is glued and riveted to the chassis
formed from steel and carbon fibre.
Inside the Lamborghini Reventon the designers have used top-quality
Alcantara, carbon, aluminum, and leather and the interior layout
is inspired by the next generation jet cockpits: just like in
modern airplanes, the instruments comprise three TFT liquid
crystal displays with innovative display modes. At the touch
of a button, the driver can choose from three vehicle information
display modes. The instruments are housed in a structure milled
from a solid aluminum block, protected by a carbon fiber casting.
The G-Force-Meter is also completely new: this display shows
the dynamic drive forces, longitudinal acceleration during acceleration
and braking, as well as transversal acceleration around bends.
These forces are represented in the Reventon by the movement
of a sphere within a circuit depending on the direction and
intensity of the acceleration. A similar instrument can be found
in high performance airplanes. Formula One teams also use a
similar device to analyze dynamic forces.
