Renault has been on a charge for the last few years to produce
a number of hot hatches which offer performance, handling, and
fun which can match that of far more expensive vehicles.
The Renaultsport Twingo 133 Cup is designed to sit below the
Renaultsport Clio and Renaultsport
Megane 250, and also offer a slightly more 'hardcore' option
in the Renaultsport Twingo range.
The Renaultsport Twingo 133 Cup is lighter and less well equipped
than the standard Renaultsport Twingo 133. The air-conditioning
system and automatic headlight and wiper operation have been
deleted, and the separate sliding rear seats have been replaced
with a simpler bench seat unit.
The suspension system of the Renaultsport Twingo 133 Cup is
10% stiffer and 4mm lower than the standard 133 (the Cup's suspension
system is available as an option on the standard Twingo 133).
While this sounds like a relatively minuscule change the upgrades
allow for noticeably improved handling through the twisty bits.
The 133 Cup is also fitted with unique black-colored 17"
alloy wheels wrapped in high-grip Continental tires.
Powering the Renaultsport 133 Cup is the same naturally-aspirated,
1.6 litre, 4-cylinder engine with variable
valve timing (VVT). Producing 133 horsepower (hence the
name) @ 6,750 rpm, and 160 Nm of torque @ 4,400 rpm. This allows
for an 8.7 second 0-60 mph time and a 125mph top speed. Power
is sent to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.
While the Renaultsport Twingo 133 Cup isn't exactly the kind
of car dreams are made of, it's a great looking little car,
and the sublime chassis offers a huge amount of fun for little
money.
