Debuted in 1995, the radical Renault Sport Spider was dismissed
by most as another flight of designer fantasy. It came as a
surprise then in 1996 when the production Sport Spider's were
delivered to showrooms.
The Spartan Sport Spider is so geared towards lightweight motoring
even the windscreen is an optional extra, standard wind protection
comes from a wind deflector positioned in front of the cockpit.
A rare sight on the road, the Sport Spider lost sales to the
more powerful, and desirable Lotus Elise. The Spider was axed in 1999.
