The 2007 Ducati 1098 is the replacement superbike for the controversially
styled Ducati 999. The Ducati
1098 goes back to the legendary, and widely regarded as one
of the most attractive sports bikes of all time the Ducati 916,
for design influence. Specifically in the shape of the slit-like
headlights illuminated by the latest in polyellipsoidal lighting
technology. The tail section, with underseat dual exhausts,
is similar in shape to that of the MV
Agusta F4, designed, like the 916, by Massimo Tamburini.
The Ducati 1098 features a 160 horsepower 1098 cc Testastretta
Evoluzione engine which is the most powerful L-Twin ever produced,
mounted in a chrome-moly trellis frame which is 14% more rigid
than the previous frame, while also being around 1 lb lighter.
Overall weight of the Ducati 1098 is just 381 lbs (173 kgs).
The Ducati 1098 features top-shelf components in all areas.
The braking is handled by 330mm disks clamped by Brembo monobloc
calipers with radial mounting. The digital dash of the 1098
is taken directly from the Ducati Desmosedici GP7 race bike
(see Ducati Desmosedici
RR), and features handlebar switchgear controls.
