> Ducati 916
Introduction
The iconic Ducati 916 was one of the most beautiful designs in the
history of motorcycle development. It was designed by Massimo Tamburini
who went on to design the MV Agusta F4 and the bike which bears his
name the MV Agusta F4 Tamburini. Today a similarities
can be seen between the Ducati 916 and the more modern F4s, especially
in the tail section.
Design of the Ducati 916 was as much about function as it was about
form and the Ducati 916 brought the two together in perfect harmony,
the single sided swing arm was stunning however it was actually designed
to make wheel changes faster during races. The 916's underseat exhausts
were an attempt to improve aerodynamic performance but at the same
time they helped give the Ducati 916 a clean and and stunning profile.
In 1998 the Ducati 996 appeared, this
bike was almost identical to the 916 but with a larger capacity (996
cc) engine.
