The Lotus Elise concept which was debuted at the 2010
Paris Motor Show is designed to provide an accurate preview
of the new Elise due to hit the streets in 2015.
Purists - and who else buys an Elise - will probably be
rightfully unhappy about the fact the new Elise is heavier,
more complicated and more expensive than the original
Elise. And they've got a right to be upset. Lotus
had been carrying the flag for all driving enthusiasts
with their lightweight and minimalist sports cars for
years. Now the new generation of cars is not much different
to any other sports car manufacturer.
Aside from die-hard lightweight Lotus fans, most other
people will be pretty happy with the coming changes, as
they make the car a bit more appealing to the ordinary
driver.
There's not many complaints about the styling - other
than the fact its not as easily identifiable or characterful
than the old car.
The 2015 Lotus Elise Concept features sharp chiseled lines
in place of the old cars curves and swoops.
Danny Bahar, Chief Executive Officer of Group Lotus, said:
"We worked very hard on getting the 2015 Elise
exactly right, it's our entry level car so it needs to
give a proper introduction to the Lotus driving experience.
The 2015 Elise you can buy now is still a fantastic car,
make no mistake, Lotus remain very proud of it, but this
is a natural progression for us moving forward. The 2015
Elise will also be class-leading in terms of performance
and efficiency but it will do more than that it will take
the 2015 Elise model to the forefront of its class across
the board. The design of the Elise 2015 is perfect for
the target market, it's young, strong, confident, verging
on ruthless, it mirrors the engineering and technology.
It's the next generation 2015 Elise for a new generation
of Lotus drivers."
