At the 2010 Paris Motor Show Lotus unveiled an amazing
five all-new concept vehicles. Essentially they revealed
their entire future lineup all in the space of one evening.
The headline act was the introduction of the Lotus Esprit
Concept, a car which everyone had been expecting but no
one knew the details.
The new Lotus Esprit should be in showrooms by 2013, and
as the flagship model it is the one everyone will be judging
most fiercely.
The styling of the new Lotus Esprit concept is significantly
different to the old car. In fact if it weren't for the
badges it would be impossible to identify it as a Lotus.
It looks more like a next-generation Honda NSX.
Powering the Lotus Esprit concept is a supercharged, 5.0
litre V8 which produces 620 horsepower and 720 Nm of torque.
Thanks to this beasty engine the Esprit concept can catapult
itself to 62 mph (100km/h) in just 3.4 seconds. Top speed
is 205mph (330 km/h).
Dany Bahar, Chief Executive Officer of Group Lotus said
of the new Esprit concept: "One has to be very careful
when taking on the challenge of reinventing such an iconic
classic as the 2013 Esprit - everyone has an opinion.
There's a fine balance between acknowledging the greatness
of the past whilst at the same time rapidly leaping forward
to the future and ensuring that this car not only does
the name 2013 Esprit justice but also the Lotus brand.
I think we've managed to find the balance and in doing
so created a new icon, a car people will find hard to
resist. Not only does the 2013 Esprit look incredible
but it has the performance to match. We've stuck to the
Lotus core values of performance through lightweight and
teamed them with future technology and exceptional engineering
to ensure that the 2013 Esprit will be the leader of the
pack. The design is aggressive, you have to see it to
appreciate how low and wide the proportions are but it
still retains a level of dignity, of class and most of
all exclusivity. I’m very proud of this car."
