The Lotus Esquive (Dodge in French) is the work of Mayeul
Walser, a Transport Design student at CREAPOLE-ESDI in
Paris. Previous examples of work from Walser include the
Saab
Fashionista and the Alpine
Renaissance.
The Esquive was designed as a sports vehicle for the Russian
market. So before the concept began to take shape Walser
did research into Russia as a country, gathering inspiration
from the sheer size of the country with its wide open
expanses, and also Russian aerospace design.
Unlike all other Lotus products which are strictly for
use on-road, the Esquive has been designed as a mild off-roader
to take advantage of the Russian countryside. The windscreen/roof
panels can be removed to open up the cabin to the elements
and effectively turn the vehicle into a 21st century sports
buggy.
The styling of the Esquive utilizes evasive intersecting
lines to provide a sense of movement throughout the design.
This sense of dynamic ability is one of the traits most
closely associated with the Lotus brand with its lightweight
= better handling philosophy. Walser envisages a carbon
fibre monocoque chassis for the Esquive, covered by fiberglass
body panels.
The proposed drive train for the Lotus Esquive is a set
of four electric motors developing a total of 260 hp (190
kW). Driving the front wheels are a pair of 55 hp (40kW)
motors, while at the rear a duo of 75 hp (55kW) motors
power the back wheels. Not just four wheel drive, the
Esquive has also been designed with four wheel steering
in mind for sharper cornering.
Dimensions of the Lotus Esquive:
Length - 4,000 mm (13 feet)
Height - 1,250 mm (4.1 feet)
Width - 2,200 mm. (7.2 feet)
