The Ford SVT Mustang Cobra R was displayed for the first time
at the 2000 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) convention.
The track-tuned SVT Mustang Cobra R was powered by a 5.4L 32-valve
V8 engine which developed 385 horsepower @ 6250 rpm, and 385
lb-ft of torque at 4250 rpm. To help keep the Mustang Cobra
R stable at high speed, the car features aerodynamic improvements
including a front splitter and higher rear spoiler.
Other visual modifications to the Mustang Cobra R included the
"power dome" hood, which was necessary in order to fit over
the Cobra R's unique intake manifold. To improve handling, the
Mustang Cobra R was equipped with lowered and stiffened suspension
and 18-inch wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich g-Force KD tires.
2000 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra R's interior enhancements included
the addition of Recaro sport seats, and the removal of the radio,
air-conditioner and back seat to save weight. A number of well-respected
performance parts suppliers worked alongside Ford's SVT department
in the development of the Cobra R, including Brembo for the
front brake rotors and calipers, Tremec for the 6-speed transmission,
Eibach and Bilstein for suspension, and Borla for the exhaust.
Only 300 Mustang Cobra R's were produced.
