As GM and Chrysler begin to join the muscle car race in which
the Mustang has been the sole contender for the last few years,
Ford is attempting to keep their prize fighter fresh and interesting.
The retro styled Mustang is one of the most attractive cars
(for the price) on the market today, but the experience could
get a hell of a lot cheaper with the (re)introduction of the
Ford Shelby GT-H.
Back in the 1960's Fords "Rent-A-Racer" program where
enthusiasts could rent a Shelby GT350 through Hertz car rentals
was a big hit. It meant that for a reasonable price almost everyone
could try a legend. For 2006 Ford has introduced the Shelby
GT-H a "Rent-A-Racer" for the 2000's. Around 500 Shelby
GT-H cars will be available for hire through select Hertz airport
rental locations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida,
Hawaii, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
Not just a paint job, the Shelby GT-H version also features
Fords FR1 power pack which gives a 25 horsepower power increase
over the stock Mustang GT. The pack includes:
a 90 mm cold air intake
Performance muffler
performance X pipe from the Shelby GT500
performance calibration
The handling has also been improved with specially tuned dampers,
lower springs, sway bars and strut brace and a 3.55:1 gear ratio
for better acceleration.
