The all-new 2007 BMW 3 Series convertible is available in two
forms. The 328i Convertible, with a naturally aspirated 3.0
litre straight-six engine. Or the higher-spec 335i Convertible
equipped with a 300 horsepower, 3.0 litre, twin-turbo straight-six.
The engine of the 2007 335i Convertible is constructed from
lightweight materials helping the car to achieve an almost 50/50
weight distribution. Its low inertia turbocharger internals
and high precision direct fuel injection makes turbo lag nearly
nonexistent as peak torque of 300 ft lbs starts at a mere 1,400
rpm, continuing to 5000 rpm. With this engine the BMW 335i Convertible
is able to accelerate to 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds. Top speed
is electronically limited to 150 mph.
Both the 2007 328i Convertible and the 335i Convertible come
as standard with a 6 speed manual gearbox turning the rear wheels.
But both models are also available with a 6-speed sequential-auto
gearbox which can be controlled via steering-wheel mounted paddles.
The three-piece electrohydraulic powered convertible steel hardtop
can be dropped into the trunk in 22 seconds, and raised in 23.
For safety the remote control, like the interior roof-mounted
control switch, must remain depressed to raise or lower the
top. By using the hardtop, BMWs designers and engineered have
been able to increase rear visibility by a massive 38 percent
over the previous model.
Inside, the front seats of the 2007 BMW 3 Series Convertible
come with integrated belt systems and the center console extends
all the way to the rear, splitting the rear into two single
seats for extra comfort by offering generous headroom thanks
to their low seating position.
Over the previous BMW 3 series convertible, shoulder and elbow
room have been noticeably increased. Access to the two seats
at the rear is facilitated by both the seat release lever fitted
at the top of the seat backrest and the 2x-speed fore-aft power
adjustment switch.
