The RST 1000 Futura is the Italian answer to the Honda VFR800.
Heavier and less powerful than the Aprilia Falco, the Futura
offers a mix of performance, comfort and practicality.
It's stylish too, in its own angular sort of way. The single-sided
swingarm looks good, and also makes changing the rear wheel
far easier. The full fairing provides decent wind protection
for the rider while also contributing to aerodynamic performance.
The Futura is powered by a detuned version of the Aprilia RSV Mille V-twin engine and offers good
mid-range power delivery. The clever exhaust system incorporates
an underseat silencer allowing space for hard luggage panniers
to be attached to either side.
It goes and handles well, with plenty of seat space for long
journeys.
On the downside the Aprilia Futura has service intervals (4500
miles) shorter than most of the competition, and expensive spares
and running costs.
A good tourer bike for those looking for something a little
different.
