The Plymouth Prowler was one of a select few show cars which
made it into production. The Prowler was initially shown at
the 1993 Detroit Auto Show as a concept based on the popular
American hot rod theme. However the Public's reaction to the
Prowler was so positive that Plymouth decided to put it into
production.
The Plymouth Prowler consisted of 17" front wheels and
massive 20" rear wheels, a steel and aluminium body laid
over a steel frame, a modern interior, and a 3.5 litre V6 engine.
Some people were put off by the lack of V8 power, but with the
V6 developing 218 horsepower, good for 125 mph and 7.7 seconds
to 60 mph, most people were accepting of Plymouth's decision.
The first year of the Plymouth Prowler, 1998 model year, saw
all 3000 cars painted in the same plum purple paint.
