The M12 GTO is a small volume sports car created by Noble sports
cars based in the UK. The designer, Lee Noble who had previous
experience designing sports cars was helped by the financial
backer Tony Moy, in bringing the car to market.
Power for the Noble M12 GTO came from a 2.5 litre V6 engine
taken from the Ford Mondeo, the 5 speed manual transmission
was also borrowed. But unlike the front-wheel-drive Mondeo the
M12 GTO was rear-wheel-drive, and the engine and transmission
combination was housed in the middle of the car behind the seats.
Unlike so many small car companies who usually last a year or
two, the M12 GTO made Noble a success story. And the model progressed
to the M12 GTO 3R - which
had more power thanks to a larger engine. Later a new car, the
Noble M15 took over where the M12
GTO 3R left off.
