Aimed
at the Mercedes-Benz SL500, Jaguar
XKR, and Lexus SC 430, the
Cadillac XLR is essentialy a C5 Corvette
Convertible wrapped in plastic body panels, powered by the
Cadillac Northstar V8 engine.
Obviously it's not quite that simple! But that's the basic idea.
The interior of the XLR was significantly better than the car
on which it was based, not difficult considering the cheap-feeling
plasticky interior of the C5 Corvette. It had more comfort features
including heated and cooled leather seats, wood trim, sat-nav,
and a DVD system with a 7-inch screen.
The roof of the Cadillac XLR was a lightweight aluminium unit
which folded away neatly into the rear trunk.
