The Peugeot RD concept was the winning entry in the 2008
Peugeot Design Contest. The RD was created by Carlos Arturo
Torres Tovar, a Colombian designer and graduate of the
Industrial Design School at the National University of
Colombia in Bogata. The brief for the 5th Peugeot Design
Contest was "Imagine the Peugeot in the Worldwide
Megalopolis of tomorrow".
The Peugeot RD concept, which was displayed as a 1:1 scale
model at the 2009 Shanghai Motor Show, is a single seat
vehicle which features an articulated system designed
to help the driver weave in and out of tight spaces when
driving in congested mega-cities.
The Peugeot RD is powered by a single electric motor for
emission free travel, and the driving position offers
a panoramic view which assists the driver while negotiating
the packed streets. The RD also features voice activated
systems and a heads-up display providing all the vital
driving information.
While the Peugeot RD offers many luxuries and comforts
impossible to achieve on a scooter or commuter motorbike,
the fact that it is a strict single-seater kind of defeats
the purpose of being a city friendly eco vehicle.
