In the tool world there are two main types of pick. There is the axe/hammer type of pick used for mining/digging etc. And there is the delicate pick used for fine and complicated tasks. Described here is the second type.

Picks come in a variety of shapes an sizes for different tasks. However they basically consist of a small handle and at the other end is a sharp point which sometimes is at 90 degrees to the handle.

Many picks, including the one pictured here have a handle in the middle and different pick styles at either end.
