A
lifting tackle is a device which converts the relatively weak strength
of a person into a considerable force able to lift heavy objects,
like and engine or transmission.
A lifting tackle is an overhead stationary pulley that is designed
to work with a chain or rope. The lifting tackle multiplies a persons
lifting capability considerably. As the chain or rope is pulled
down from the Lifting tackle by the operator, the other end of the
chain (which is connected to the object to be lifted) raises up.
Lifting Tackles usually have a ratcheting mechanism which stops
the chain or rope from being pulled back through the device while
lifting heavy objects.
