A
bandsaw is a power tool which uses a cutting blade which consists
of a band of metal with serrated teeth along one edge to cut various
materials. The saw blade (band) usually rides on two wheels rotating
in the same plane, although some bandsaws use three wheels.
Bandsaws have the benefit of providing a relatively smooth cut due
to the evenly distributed cutting forces provided by the blade.
Bandsaws are commonly used for woodworking, metalworking, or for
cutting a variety of other materials. Bandsaws are particularly
good at cutting irregular or curved shapes, however they can also
be used to produce straight cuts.
