19th January 2010

Scoring 10 out of 10 for obscenely expensive and completely
unnecessary branded accessories is this, the Bugatti fountain
pen. The pen itself is actually made by a company called
Ferrari da Varese (no relation to the supercar manufacturer).
The 16cm (6.3 inch) pen weighs in at 95 grams and is made
from nickel plated aluminium which is coated in silver,
palladium and platinum. The tip is made from 18kt gold
which is coated in rhodium. Chemistry lesson over.
499 examples of the pen are scheduled to be made, and
Bugatti are asking $15,000 (£9,000) for each unit.
Personally I can't think of a more tasteless way of wasting
that sort of money - short of setting it on fire in front
of a destitute family.
