Hennessey Performance Engineering is one of the best known and
most successful tuning companies in the world. Specializing
in extreme power upgrades to American muscle cars and sports
cars Hennessey have decided to turn their attention to the Corvette
ZR1 and create a limited edition model tailored for the
racetrack.
Hennesseys Z700 performance package for the engine includes
an upgraded supercharger and intercooler and improved intake
and exhaust systems. With these modifications the power output
increases from 638 horsepower to 705 horsepower. Although if
this isn't enough Hennessey offer a Z750 package producing 750
horsepower. For the truly insane the Z1000 package offers up
to 1000 hp thanks to two turbo-chargers.
To further improve the overall performance and handling of the
Z700 ZR1 Corvette the weight has been reduced where possible.
Lightweight carbon-fibre
wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires reduce the
weight by 27 kgs (60 lbs) alone. Because the bodywork of the
ZR1 is already constructed from carbon-fibre there wasn't much
more room for weight loss regarding the body panels, however
the additional carbon-fibre spoilers both front and rear help
increase the downforce for better handling through the corners.
One area Hennessy has cut the fat is in the interior. The standard
seats have been replaced with lightweight carbon fiber Sparco
sports seats. The steering wheel and gearknob are covered in
high grip Alcantara suede.
Hennessey plans to build just 24 of these limited-edition Corvette
ZR1's for the 2010 model year. Each customer also gets a full
day of performance driving instruction in his or her new Z700
at Hennessey’s own private test track, Lonestar Motorsports
Park. Lonestar, which is located next to the company’s facility,
is located just west of Houston, Texas and has a full quarter-mile
dragstrip as well as the addition of a 1.1-mile road course
which will soon be under construction.
