In
2003 at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt AC Schnitzer
unveiled their BMW Z4-based
V8 Topster.
The most obvious feature of the V8 Topster is the enclosed
bodywork, widened by 13 cm to accommodate 20" wheels,
finished in orange and cream paint.
The V8 Topster's engine was developed in record time as a
one-off special in collaboration with the BMW works team and
Schnitzer. The engine, an upgraded version of the 4941 cc
V8, from the BMW M5, Is equipped with special intake and exhaust
camshafts. The cylinder heads have also been fine-machined,
the compression raised to 11.5 : 1 and the control unit reprogrammed.
To improve the exhaust gas flow, an environmentally-friendly
special steel high performance exhaust system has been created
with twin chromed racing tailpipes.
In
the AC Schnitzer V8 Topster, handling has been improved by the
special development of a 9-position adjustable AC Schnitzer
racing suspension. As well as a 35 mm lower ride height. The
spring and damper rates have been substantially modified to
deliver more sporting performance. In addition V8 Topster's
wheel bearings and front and rear control arms have been replaced.
Amongst other performance additions are a range of products
available from AC Schnitzer for tuning the standard BMW Z4.
