Porsche dealers in Europe have extended the Panamera range with
an all-new diesel model.
The Porsche Panamera Diesel clearly isn't the fastest in the
Panamera lineup. In fact it's the slowest. But it's by far the
most practical for day-to-day use.
The 3.0 litre V6 engine puts out 250 horsepower (184 kW) from
3,800 rpm to 4,400 rpm. While the maximum torque output of 550
Nm (405 lb-ft) is available all the way from 1,750 rpm to 2,750
rpm. The engine is coupled to an 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission,
and working together they can take the Diesel Panamera up to
62 mph (100km/h) in 6.8 seconds, and on to a 150 mph top speed.
One of the biggest selling points to the Porsche Panamera Diesel
is the engine's fuel economy and the car's massive 745 mile
range on a full 80-litre tank. With the optional lower rolling
resistance tires fitted, the Panamera Diesel emits just 167
g/km and offers 44.8mpg.
In order to achieve such frugal performance, the engine utilizes
a range of high-tech features, including common rail direct
injection through piezo valves at a pressure of 2000 bar, electrically
controlled variable geometry turbochargers, and an emission
control system which uses gas recirculation, an oxidation catalyst
and particle filter.
Pretty much the only identifying feature of the Porsche Panamera
Diesel - without looking in the engine bay - are small 'Diesel'
badges mounted just aft of the front wheel arch.

review by Dave Bla
The Panamera is a car that in my opinion serves little purpose
in context to the auto group, and only distracts from the purpose
of the brand.
Porsche is a high performance brand within a larger auto group.
Other brands within this group have a better Identity as a Luxury
car Manufacturer.
With the introduction of a Diesel powered sedan, I feel that
the company is getting even farther off the path.
