Okay so fair enough it's not a hot hatch, it's a compact saloon
car. But it's got a stonking engine and cracking chassis, and
aside from the little cargo area tacked on the back it's got
all the hot hatch ingredients in massive doses. Only 300 examples
of the car were produced, all for the Japanese domestic market
in 2007. However a very limited number have seeped out as grey
imports to various other countries.
Mugen have made a name for themselves as the definitive tuning
company for Honda vehicles - a fact which was highlighted by
the fact all 300 Civic Mugen RR's were bought within 10 minutes
of going on sale. The car has been described as one of the best
FWD cars of all time by many motoring journalists. It's been
praised not only for its impressive performance numbers thanks
to the 240 horsepower, 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine and crisp
6 speed gearbox. But also for its remarkable chassis which offers
impeccable handling, and its upgraded braking system which sees
the addition of grooved brake discs and braided hoses to the already
outstanding Brembo setup.
Weight reduction was a key design requirement for the car and
because of this the vehicle features numerous special items
like carbon fiber bumpers, an aluminium bonnet, carbon fiber
rear spoiler, lightweight alloy wheels, and carbon fiber Recaro
sports seats.
