The Alfa Romeo 147 GTA was an extremely high performance version
of Alfa's little 147 hatchback. The 147 GTA was a car which
punched well above its weight. The performance numbers were
truly exceptional for its class, and coupled to that the engine
note is characterful and eager.
Powering the Alfa Romeo 147 GTA was a 3.2 litre V6 which produced
247 horsepower @ 6,200 rpm, and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque.
This allowed the car to hit a 153 mph top speed, while the 0-60
mph sprint was dealt with in just over 6 seconds. The power
was sent to the front wheels using a 6 speed manual transmission.
Exterior differences between the 147 GTA and the standard car
includes wider bodywork - 15 mm wider to be exact - in order
to cover the larger 17 inch diameter wheels. The GTA also got
redesigned and more sporty bumpers both front and rear, and
deeper sideskirts.
As you'd expect, the 147 GTA's chassis was revised to cope with
the extra power and performance. It wasn't just a case of dropping
in new stiffer springs either. Instead the whole suspension
setup was developed specifically for the GTA. It featured a
reinforced lower beam, lower ride height, new shock absorber
and spring settings, a special wheel strut that is fastened
to the steering link in a different position - and a larger
diameter anti-roll bar. The rear suspension received similar
treatment.
