Despite
the traditional British sports car appearance, Wiesmann is in
fact based in Dülmen, Germany. So the 2009 Frankfurt Motor
Show was a venue befitting the unveiling of their latest creation,
the Wiesmann Roadster MF5.
Based around the GT MF5,
the Roadster model is powered by the same BMW-sourced 5.0 litre
V10. This unit produces 507 horsepower @ 7,750 rpm and 520 Nm
of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheel through a 7-speed
sequential transmission. Top speed for the Wiesmann Roadster
MF5 is 193 mph. The sprint to 60 mph is completed in just under
4 seconds.
Aside from the lack of a fixed roof there are also a few other
minor modifications to the Roadster MF5's bodywork over the
coupe version. Up front the air intakes have been slightly revised
and made slightly smaller, while at the rear the taillight units
now incorporate three lights instead of two. The rear panel
has also been altered to allow the twin central exhausts to
exit through the bodywork, instead of underneath.
The interior of the Wiesmann Roadster MF5 is equipped with specially
designed sports seats which offer excellent lateral support.
On request the seats can be custom tailored to suit the driver's
and passenger's body contours.
Despite the lack of a roof and the necessary addition of extra
chassis members to maintain rigidity the Roadster gains only
29 kgs (64 lbs).
