The 2010 Volvo C30 SportsCoupe facelift consists of a front
and rear bumper redesign, new styling accessory kit, more options
and body colors, but perhaps most significant of all is the
new Sports chassis which is available as an option on all models
except the 1.6 diesel model with start stop technology.
The C30's sport chassis option offers a sharper ride with more
engaging steering. This is achieved through a number of engineering
upgrades. The steering ratio is lower, giving a 10 percent faster
response to steering wheel input, while stiffer bushings offer
more precise steering feel. Spring stiffness has been increased
by 30 percent to deliver a more dynamic ride. The dampers are
also stiffer, and are designed to build up pressure more quickly.
The anti-roll bars are also upgraded to reduce any leaning tendency
when cornering.
The styling of the Volvo C30 has also been updated to match
with the company's new design language pioneered by the S60
Concept and C70 production
model. The changes mainly involve an updated nose section with
more shapely headlights, dynamic style lines and revised grille
design. "The front of the Volvo C30 has become more
dramatic and expressive. The angled lines of the front bumper
together with the new headlamps, which are drawn offset and
up, reinforce the impression of speed and sportiness,"
says Fedde Talsma, Exterior Chief Designer at Volvo Cars.
Although the biggest design changes have taken place at the
front, the rear also sports a similar range of updates, including
a new colour-coded rear valance that is available in body colour
or, to add a dramatic twist, in a contrasting colour.
A new accessory styling kit has been introduced to give the
Volvo C30 even more sporting attitude. The kit includes foglamp
décor, a front skidplate, side scuff plates and a rear
skidplate with an aluminium look. For the D5 and T5 models,
twin polished stainless steel tailpipes are featured.
Engine options for the 2010 C30 include four diesel models ranging
from a 109 hp 1.6 litre with or without start-stop tech, to
the D5 model with 180 hp. Petrol options include a 100hp, 1.6
litre model, a 145 hp 2.0 litre version. And at the top of the
pile is the C30 T5 with a 230 hp engine.
