The
Vauxhall VX220 which was originally introduced in 2000, was
built alongside the Lotus Elise,
and in fact the design was based on the Elise chassis, modified
to accept a GM engine. And, like the Elise, the Vauxhall VX220
has won praise for its balanced handling and driving characteristics.
The VX220 Turbo model, introduced in 2003, used a 2.0 L Ecotec
LSJ engine, producing around 200 horsepower. This was mated
to a 5 speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels.
Production of the Vauxhall VX220 ended in 2005. In its final
year a more powerful, track orientated, limited-edition model
called the VXR220 was introduced
based on the VX220 Turbo platform.
