Just a few short hours after the unofficial unveiling of the
2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, fresh images and the full details of
the car were released by Porsche. And here they are.
The 2011 911 GT2 RS is the fastest, most powerful, and most
brutal road-legal 911 ever to come from the company. Power is
up by 90 horses over the previous 911
GT2, and the weight has been slashed by a considerable 70
kgs (154 lbs).
As a byproduct of this weight saving - and despite the performance
improvements, the 2011 911 GT2 RS actually produces around 5
percent less emissions than its predecessor. Lightweight features
developed for the 2011 GT2 RS include: use of lighter aluminium
transverse arms and diagonal struts in the rear suspension,
carbon fibre reinforced front lid and rear spoiler, polycarbonate
rear window and side windows, lightweight engine cover, lighter
single-mass flywheel, and featherweight lithium-ion battery.
The 3.6 litre flat-six cylinder
engine is fed by two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry.
Power output for this unit stands at 620 hp @ 6,500 rpm, while
the torque figure comes in at 700Nm @ 2,500 - 5,500 rpm. The
power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a six-speed
manual gearbox.
Obviously with such potent drivetrain at your disposal, a suitably
matched braking system is a necessity - If you want to stay
alive anyway. The 2011 911 GT2 RS features Porsche's PCCB composite
ceramic brakes fitted as standard.
In its exterior styling, the new 911 GT2 RS stands out clearly
from the 911 GT2 through the use of carbon fibre reinforced
(CFR) components which are finished in matt-black. At the front,
the new, wider 911 GT2-style light-alloy wheels with centre
locking are shrouded by flared wheel arches. "GT2 RS"
model designations give further differentiation on the doors
and rear engine cover. The upgraded front spoiler lip and the
rear spoiler lip are also made of CFR and display a surface
carbon finish. The rear spoiler lip is now 10 millimeters higher
to ensure the right aerodynamic
precision, as well as extra downforce.
