Nissan
stopped producing the Skyline model in 2002. Therefore the 'new'
2005 R34 Skyline GT-R Nismo Z-Tune is actually built from used
R34 Skylines Nissan bought back off their owners.
Only 20 Z-Tune Skylines were produced as a teaser for the GT-R
Proto, a Skyline replacement due 2007. This is not the first
time Nissan has used this marketing ploy of resurrecting past
cars. They bought, restored, modified, and then resold several
Datsun 240Zs as a warm up to the Nissan 350Z launch.
The Nismo Z-Tune R34 Skyline is intended as the ultimate Skyline
for the enthusiast. However, for a car which has proved over
1000 hp is capable (in a much modified version), Nismo has made
the Z-Tune drivable and reasonably practical. With Porsche
911 rivaling performance, 493 bhp and 398 lb ft of torque
it is still however a potent machine with the powerful looks
to match. Note the air vents high on the front wings, just forward
of the mirrors.
