Sports Cars > 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06The home turf of the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit is where Chevrolet chose to unveil the all-new C7 version of the Corvette Z06. The enhanced Z06 version of the Corvette Stingray features both aerodynamic upgrades and engineering modifications to the drivetrain which leave it only fractionally less powerful than the C6 ZR1. Although it has over 100 horsepower more than the previous C6 Z06 Corvette. With the Supercharged V8 engine producing 620 horsepower and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque. From the outside the C7 Corvette Z06 is identifiable from the standard car thanks to numerous bodywork alterations. There's a low lip spoiler, deeper sideskirts, air intakes set into the rear wheel arches, a black-painted central hood section, darkened headlights, a redesigned front grille, and new alloy wheels. An even more hardcore Z07 version will also be offered, with additional high-performance components added to make it even more capable on the track. The Z07 Performance Package includes exclusive aerodynamic aids, Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tires, and Brembo carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors that improve braking performance and reduce unsprung weight. Powering the Corvette Z06 is an all-new LT4 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine. To provide a balance between performance and efficiency, the LT4 engine uses the same fuel saving technologies used on the Corvette Stingray, including; Direct injection, Active Fuel Management, or cylinder deactivation, and continuously variable valve timing. The 2015 Corvette Z06 is offered with either a seven-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic with paddle shift. "Unlike most ultra-performance cars, the Corvette Z06 offers customers the choice between two transmissions to suit their driving styles," said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. "The seven-speed gives the driver the control of a true three-pedal manual transmission with perfect shifts enabled by Active Rev Matching. The new eight-speed automatic offers drivers the comfort and drivability of a true automatic transmission, as well as lightning-fast shifts and manual control for track driving." Inside, the Corvette Z06 is marked out from the Corvette Stingray by unique color schemes and a flat-bottomed steering wheel with Z06 logo. Like the standard Corvette, Z06 buyers will have two seat choices: a GT seat, for all-around comfort, and a Competition Sport seat which offers more lateral support. --
