I have owned many cars, some of which have been from Ferrari.
But the 550 Maranello was the best car that I have ever had
the pleasure to own, drive, and cross America with.
This was the best handling vehicle both in maneuvering ability,
speed and finish. I put 15,000 miles on this car in just two
years and it never failed me. I did go over a large metal strip
in the road in New Hope, Pennsylvania and cut the air conditioning
hose that was pinched as a result of this bump in the road.
If you asked me what problems I encountered with the car, the
above was the only one.
The traction control helped keep you out of trouble with not being able
to handle this monster car but once you released the traction
control you are the pilot of this car. Watch out.
This is more car than I am capable of driving and if you are
not careful and respectful of what you have under your control
then it will get away from you. Unless your name is Michael
Schumacher .
I have owned 1974 246 Dino Chair and Flairs, 1998 F355 Spyder,
2000 F360 Spyder and of course the 1999 550 Maranello.
The above cars are all wonderful but the 550 was my personal
favorite. The fastest that I drove it was 198 mph. I took this
car to the Formula One Race in Indianapolis and the drive back
to NYC in the rain was the hardest drive of my life as it was
a two lane road most of the way back and it was me and 18 wheelers.
The wind between us was amazing and the car was just incredible.
Thank you Ferrari for producing such fun, terrific cars for
us mortals to drive.
