The Ducati Hypermotard 796 is intended to offer a slightly smaller
and less intimidating option in the Hypermotard range. The Hypermotard
796 has all the same distinctive styling as the Hypermotard
1100. Which is great if you like the unique design, and
not so great if you don't.
The Hypermotard 796 weighs in at 167 kgs (368 lbs) and the seat
height stands at 825 mm (32.5 inches), making the bike 10 kg
(22 lbs) lighter and 20 mm (0.8 inches) shorter than the 1100
version. The weight reduction comes not only from the smaller
engine, but also thanks to new upper and lower fork clamps,
and an optimised frame which uses less forged components.
Powering the Hypermotard 796 is a completley new 800cc, Desmodue
L-twin engine which chucks out 81 horspower and 55.7 lb-ft of
torque. The engine's fuel efficiency is rated at 49 mpg.
The bike is equipped with an APTC 'wet' clutch to give a 'slipper'
type action that prevents destabilization of the rear-end during
aggressive down-shifting and also gives the extra benefit of
a super-light feel at the lever, a great benefit in stop-start
city traffic or during longer journeys.
The Ducati Hypermotard 796 is available in an "urban-style"
Dark finish with matte black tank and front mudguard, black
frame and black wheels. Or alternatively, a matte white tank
with contrasting matte black front mudguard, black frame and
black wheels. The 796 can also be ordered with an 1100 look-alike
red tank with matching front mudguard, red frame and black wheels.
