The Ducati 1098 R is a race derived superbike and it shows.
Its competition specification and superior components together
with advanced electronics and race-proven chassis technology
deliver an extremely high level of performance.
The 1098 R is not a race replica - it's the real deal. A 180hp,
99 lb-ft (134Nm), L-Twin Testastretta Evoluzione engine in a
race-winning Trellis chassis setup tips the scales at a featherweight
165kg (364lbs) and comes with Ducati Corse's world championship
winning traction control system for the road.
The Ducati 1098 R comes with a race kit (intended strictly for
track use only) which boosts power output from 180 to approximately
186hp. The kit consists of a 102dB carbon fibre slip-on muffler
kit by Termignoni and a dedicated ECU.
The 1098 R is equipped as standard with Ducati Data Analyzer
(DDA) which evaluates the performance of the bike and its rider
by recording numerous channels of data including throttle opening,
vehicle speed, engine rpm, engine temperature, distance traveled,
laps and lap times and automatically calculates engine rpm and
vehicle speed to record gear selection. A new channel now records
the Ducati Traction Control (DTC) index, presenting it as a
graphic trace indicating the amount of interaction during wheel-spin.
After a ride or track session, an upgraded 4mb of data can be
downloaded to a PC to analyze the performance of rider and motorcycle.
The Ducati 1098 R features gold-colored, lightweight Marchesini
wheels, a single-sided aluminium swingarm which is finished
in gloss black to match the lower bodywork. Up front are 43mm
Ohlins forks, a magnesium front subframe, Brembo Monobloc calipers,
and a comprehensive instrument panel which acts as control panel
for the DDA and DTC.
