The Bimota Tesi 1D's most distinctive feature is its unusual
hub centre steering instead of the more traditional telescopic
forks used on most other bikes, a feature which the Tesi 1D
passed over to the later Bimota Tesi 2D. The front suspension is handled
by an offset mono-shock concealed by the all enveloping futuristic
bodywork.
The hub
centre steering on the Tesi 1D did offer improved ride characteristics,
unfortunately as a result of using this steering system the
Tesi 1D has an enormous turning circle making low speed maneuvering
a problem. The Tesi 1D's steering control rods also need to
be checked, adjusted and replaced at intervals. The Tesi 1D
uses a Ducati 851 sourced motor which was increased to 904cc
in 1992 by increasing the stroke.
