The Lexus RX400h was a refined and spacious SUV which came packed
with gadgets.
The hybrid drivetrain gave it the performance of a V8 SUV, with
the fuel economy of a V6 model.
The vehicle was first introduced at the 2004 North American
International Auto Show, going on sale the year after. When
it arrived it was the only production SUV available with a hybrid
drivetrain.
To differentiate it from the other more conventional models
in the RX range, the RX 400h features a different front grille
and foglights and redesigned taillights. Hybrid badging was
also added to the rear side doors.
The drivetrain of the Lexus RX 400h hybrid consisted of a 3.3
litre V6 engine producing 208 horsepower and 212 lb/ft of torque.
This was assisted by two electric motors, one driving the front
wheels provided an additional 165 horsepower, while the other
sent an extra 67 horsepower to the rear wheels.
The maximum output of the vehicle's drivetrain is limited to
269 horsepower. This allows for a 0-60 mph time of just over
7 seconds. While it offers around 30 - 31 MPG when driven normally.
