In 79 AD the volcano Mount Vesuvius in Italy errupted without
warning and the city of Pompeii was burried under a layer of
volcanic ash and pumice preserving some of the unlucky inhabitants
forever. Excavated some 1600 years later their last moments
have been created in plaster.
Once the ash and debris had covered the body of the unfortunate
Roman, the body eventually decayed leaving a hollow space. excavators
realised this and filled the air pockets with plaster creating
a mould of the deceased exactly as they were the moment they
died. |
