Situated off the north-west coast of England in the Irish Sea,
The Isle of Man comes under British rule, however this small
Island still retains control over its speed limits and as such
plays host to one of the most exciting motorsport events in
the world, the motorcycle TT. Car racing began on the island
in 1904 with the first motorcycles permitted in 1907.
Each lap measures just under 38 miles. The TT races are extremely
dangerous because of the combination of high speeds and narrow,
twisting roads and streets often lined by stone walls, trees
and even buildings. Throughout the years nearly 180 racers have
lost their lives here. Held in the last week of May and the
first week of June, the TT races create a wonderful carnival
atmosphere. There are many different flights and ferries providing
access to the Island. |
