Battery

A battery is an electrochemical device that converts chemical
energy into electrical energy. Typical automotive batteries
supply electrical energy to the starter motor (for cranking
the engine), lights, and ignition system, and for this reason
are referred to as SLI (starter, lighting, ignition) batteries.
By contrast, so-called traction batteries provide the main
power source for electric vehicles.
SLI or starter batteries are usually of the lead-acid type
and supply 12V DC from six galvanic cells in series.
