Air
Conditioning
Air
conditioning is a system that can deliver cool, dehumidified
air to the interior of a vehicle in hot weather, and can help
demist windows in colder conditions. More sophisticated systems
allow full climate control.
Air conditioning was first introduced in large American cars
in the 1950s and until the early 1990s used an environmentally-unfriendly
chlorofluorocarbon known as Freon-12. The approved replacement
chemical used today is tetrafluoroethane.
The basic components of a refrigerated air conditioning system
are an evaporator, compressor, condenser, receiver drier,
and expansion valve.
