The M55 Bike EVO-001 is the latest electric bike from
M55. M55 are a small yet specialized company based in
Hungary who have set out to create the "Ferrari
of electric bikes".
It's taken three years and five prototypes to get this
far, so you can be sure it's not just a cobbled together
mountain bike with some batteries and an electric motor
bolted to it. The first production bikes are scheduled
for completion some time in May 2010.
The M55 Bike EVO-001 consists off a one-piece molded aluminium
frame, integrated battery pack, and a centrally mounted
motor which is positioned low down for better stability.
There will be two versions of the bike. A street legal
one with a 250 W motor (0.33 hp), and an off-road sport
version with a 1300 W (1.7 hp) motor. Neither bike features
a manual accelerator, the motor speed is controlled by
the pedals. Pedal harder and the motor works harder too.
Ease off and so does the motor.
The battery pack (developed by A123 systems) will be the
same for both bikes and offers 20,7 Ah and 39.6 V. The
sport version of the M55 Bike EVO-001 will be able to
reach 43 mph (70 km/h) on the flat! The motor has 5 speeds,
and in the rear wheel hub is a Rohloff Speedhub with 14
gears.
To bring the bike to a halt M55 have equipped it with
Brembo disc brakes which were developed in the same production
plant where F1 and Moto GP brakes are produced.
The bikes will be handmade and only 250 units will be
manufactured.
