The Volkswagen up! concept is a rear engined, 3-door,
4-seat versatile city car which went on display at the
2007 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The exterior design of the VW up! is simple and uncluttered,
and while the front end borders on cute the projector
headlights manage to lend the concept a more meaningful
appearance. Although pleasant, the sides of the up! concept
are rather bland. The rear is dominated by the large rectangular
rear window which features the integrated taillights and
VW badge. Below this the number plate surround echoes
the grille found on the front bumper.
Inside the Volkswagen up! concept the design becomes more
interesting. Every seat, excluding the drivers, can be
folded down or even removed to create a versatile cargo
space. Once removed, the seats can be stored either in
the front trunk or the rear cargo area.
The centre console of the up! concept is a touchscreen
unit which provides the interface for the satellite navigation,
radio, climate control, and onboard computer system. An
additional screen positioned in front of the driver acts
to relay the vital data such as vehicle speed.
