The Volkswagen GX3 concept which debuted at the 2006 Los
Angeles Motor Show was an advanced concept Volkswagen
initially declared a production possibility. Depending
on the reaction of the American public. Although later
it was announced that safety and insurance concerns were
too great to allow the GX3 to enter production.
The original idea was to create a cult
classic, like the VW Beetle. |

The GX3 is aimed at the younger buyer, and the concept
has more in common with a motorcycle
than a sports
car. With a 3-wheel layout, and powered by a 1.6 litre
4 cylinder engine, the GX3 is able to achieve 60 mph in
just 5.7 seconds and also return an impressive 46 mpg.
The GX3 also qualifies for solo use in car pool lanes.
Designed in California by the Moonraker team and VW's
Design Center, Volkswagen hope the GX3 could become a
contemporary cult classic, like the original Beetle and
the Microbus of their era.
Being a driver focused machine, the minimalist styling
of the Volkswagen GX3 is influenced by racing cars and
motorcycles. The frame, formed from high-density, warp
resistant steel is covered with high density fibreglass
panels, and an exposed single sided swing arm, aggressive
central exhaust, exposed front wheels, matte colours,
anodized gold and black suspension components and LED
lights complete the track inspired design.
The interior of the GX3 is again focused on the driver,
the cockpit is equipped with five point racing harnesses,
race style instruments and a GTI inspired stainless shifter.
