The Saleen S5S Raptor was displayed at the 2008 New York
Motor Show. The concept is designed to be a significantly
lower-priced replacement for Saleen's discontinued supercar,
the Saleen
S7. However production of the S5S hinges on how well
the car is received after its unveiling.
Under the curvaceous body of the Saleen S5S Raptor lies
a mid-mounted 5.0 litre V8 engine which can run on either
conventional petrol or 85% ethanol fuel. Power output
for this unit stands at an impressive 650 horsepower and
630 ft-lbs or torque. Mated to this is a six-speed manual
transmission driving the 20" rear wheels. 0-60 mph
takes just 3.2 seconds, while the top speed is around
200 mph.
To help keep weight down and performance up, the Saleen
S5S Raptor uses a lightweight aluminium chassis hidden
under a composite body.
