Almost without fail, the Swiss tuning company Rinspeed
unveils a new oddball concept at every Geneva Motor Show.
At the 2011 show it was the turn of the Rinspeed BamBoo
to make its presence felt.
The Rinspeed BamBoo was an electric powered vehicle which,
in the words of Rinspeed is "a grown-up golf cart".
Rinspeed are obviously quite proud of their little creation.
However their explanation of the BamBoo concept borders
on the absurd. To read it you'd think they'd solved world
hunger or created a perpetual motion machine. The best
bit of the press release is this little gem of a paragraph:
"This open-top vehicle awakens the longing for
sun, summer, for lightness and easiness, the desire to
be at the beach. It is a reminiscence of the Seventies,
of the south of France and St. Tropez. And one would expect
to find Brigitte Bardot behind the wheel with playboy
Gunther Sachs at her side heading towards Tahiti beach."
Perhaps if Brigitte and Gunther had fallen on hard times
- and also lost their sight - this fanciful scenario might
occur.
In-between the endless sycophantic praise of Rinspeed's
boss, Frank Rinderknecht, and the optimistic portrayal
of the BamBoo as a wondrous vehicle which will enlighten
mankind, there are limited facts on the vehicle.
Firstly, it's electric powered. Secondly, some bits of
the interior are made from bamboo. And thirdly, the rear
seats are inflatable and can be removed for use outside
the vehicle.
