The Peugeot 308 RC Z Coupe was a concept unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. The 308 RC Z Coupe is a 2+2 sports coupe based on the 308 hatchback. In 2009 Peugeot revealed the production version of the RC Z Coupe concept, the RCZ.

The brief for the 308 RC Z Coupe was to build a vehicle with a strong focus on driving pleasure, one which was light and efficient and also environmentally friendly.

The light overall weight of the RC Z Coupe was achieved with the extensive use of aluminium components, for example the two roll over protection bars that separate the passenger compartment and give shape to the exterior styling, and the use of a polycarbonate rear windscreen and a large number of carbon fibre body parts.

The aggressive styling of the 308 RC Z Coupe concept gives a great sense of movement and fluidity even when still. The design of the front end is based around Peugeot's current 'feline' styling theme seen on many of their current production cars and concept vehicles. The badge effectively creates the nose, while the headlights and centre grille compose the eyes and mouth respectively.

Visually, the fluidity of the RC Z Coupe's design is further enhanced by the way the large tinted front windscreen, the carbon fibre roof panel and the polycarbonate tinted rear window seem to flow seamlessly into one another. From the side, the concept displays a strong profile with its prominent front wings, deeply sculpted sides, and particularly generous rear wings. The doors raise the visual profile, creating a link between the sloping front design and the curvaceous rear design. At the rear of the 308 RC Z Coupe two centrally mounted exhaust pipes are integrated into the wraparound lower rear panel. To achieve this, the rear exhaust silencer has been located in a transverse position where it also serves as an aerodynamic diffuser, but still allows sufficient space for the storage of a spare wheel.

The Peugeot 308 RC Z Coupe is powered by a 1.6 litre turbocharged 4 cylinder petrol engine derived from the unit fitted to the 207 GTi, but with the fitment of new engine management system power has been increased to 218 horsepower and 221 ft-lbs of torque. The engine is mated to an entirely new 6 speed manual gearbox allowing the 308 RC Z Coupe to achieve a 0-60 mph time of just 7 seconds and a 146 mph top speed.
