The Nissan Ellure concept which was revealed at the 2010
LA Auto Show was a vision of what Nissan believes the
future sedan should be like.
Nissan introduced the Ellure with the tag line 'The Sedan
Re-Imagined'. Shiro Nakamura, senior vice president and
chief creative officer at Nissan said of the concept:
"While not intended as a preview of any upcoming
production model, Ellure confirms Nissan's intention to
be a strong player in the sedan segment for many years
to come. As an expression of our long-term vision for
the next generation of great Nissan sedans, Ellure allows
us to introduce a new sedan concept one that honors
the sedan's unmatched daytime functionality, yet has a
more emotive, almost hidden ambiance that comes to life
after dark. It's an ideal fit for the needs of its projected
owners, women in their '30s and '40s with a sense of sophistication
and rebellion."
The Nissan Ellure displays some strong styling features
which are quite different to the current Nissan styling
theme used across the model range. The sculpted lines
work nicely down the side of the car, and the seamless
windscreen-roof-rear window panel looks contemporary and
sophisticated.
The rear doors of the Ellure are hinged at the rear, while
the front doors open in a conventional manner. Due to
the lack of any b-pillars, when the front and rear doors
are open there is a tremendous amount of access room.
Also it looks cool!
Powering the Nissan Ellure concept is a hybrid drivetrain
which consists of a supercharged 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder
with Intelligent Dual Clutch Control (one motor/two clutch
design with lithium-ion battery) and 25 kW electric motor,
matched with an Xtronic CVT and front-wheel drive. Nissan
also state that if the Ellure were to ever be produced
it would feature independent suspension, regenerative
braking, and advanced drive-by-wire electric/hydraulic
steering.
