The Mitsubishi Concept-Sportback seen at the 2005 Frankfurt
Auto Show was an indication of Mitsubishi's design strategy
for a hot hatch intended to compete with current European
models such as the Focus RS and Honda Civic, among others.
Mitsubishi has also hinted that the next Lancer may share
some of the Sportback's DNA.
Exterior design-wise the Sportback's purposeful front
end is dominated by the massive centre grille, emphasised
by the use of black trim within holding the Mitsubishi
logo.
The Sportback also displays strong wheel arches, joined
by a prominent style line running between the two. The
concept also uses a new all glass roof which finishes
under the rear high level spoiler, before flowing into
the diffuser-style rear bumper housing twin center exhausts.
The short front and rear overhangs on the Sportback only
serve to increase the taught dynamics of the overall design.
