The MINI Scooter E Concept is quite self explanatory.
It's a scooter from MINI - who obviously aren't content
with trying to make a MINI car to fit every need, so they've
decided to start making stuff with two wheels as well.
I just wonder when MINI will start doing a line of large
commercial trucks which they'll try and pass off as being
quintessentially 'MINI'.
The MINI Scooter E Concept is quite obviously the smallest
vehicle ever offered by MINI, but it's also the most environmentally
friendly thanks to its zero-emission electric drivetrain.
The electric motor, recharging system and lithium-ion
battery pack are all located under the seat. All the MINI
Scooter E Concept needs is a standard domestic wall socket
and it can be recharged.
In the styling department, MINI's designers have tried
to make the MINI Scooter E Concept as recognizable as
possible. That means the vehicle gets oversize, almost
cartoonish styling elements - like the headlights and
turn signals. It also features a smooth rounded seat and
bodywork which is not unlike some classic Vespa's.
Like any contemporary gadget, which the MINI Scooter E
Concept almost is, it must be compatible with the all-conquering
iPhone. Therefore inside the scooter's instrument panel
is a a snap-in adapter which allows a smartphone to be
used as the key, display and central control element.
MINI say: "This also offers scope for integrating
infotainment, communication and navigation functions in
a two-wheeler. While the scooter is in motion, the Smartphone
can be used as a navigation system, music player or telephone
as required. A wireless Bluetooth interface can be connected
to a helmet from the MINI Collection which is fitted with
a microphone and headphones so that riders are able to
use the telephone function or access their personal music
collection while on the road."
Because that's what the congested roads of the worlds
cities need: A bunch of moped riders flying around chatting
on the phone while listening to the Top 40.
To top it off, the MINI Scooter E Concept is equipped
with a system which recognises other MINI Scooters. When
the two vehicles pass they automatically flash their high
beams at each other. MINI say that this will increase
the sense of community spirit between MINI Scooter riders...
Well that's one take on it.
