The Honda V4 concept which was revealed at the 2008 Intermot
bike show in Germany is a stylish and futuristic sportbike
which proposes a new design direction for the brand.
In 2008 Honda celebrates its 60th anniversary as a company
and in 2009 the 50th anniversary of its participation
in road racing, as well as the 30th anniversary of racing
with an innovative 4-cylinder V-engine with oval pistons.
Considering these milestones, Honda chose "The New
Beginning" as its exhibition theme leading into 2009
and exhibited the V4 Concept Model which is designed to
signify the beginning of a new era.
The V4 engine of the concept is clearly displayed in the
design of the Honda V4 concept. In profile the engine
is higlighted by the bodywork which frames it from above
and in front. The hubless wheels are fitted with all-enveloping
cowls which presumably help reduce drag while allowing
for a small contact patch at the very bottom of the wheel.
In order to offer a comfortable life with motorcycles
for a larger number of potential customers, Honda intends
to put increased focus on the pairing of rider and machine.
The V4 concept is just the first step in that new direction.
